Gaseous Fuel

Effaa Cactus has excellent molecular features allowing delivery of a large amount of biogas in very short time. In comparative terms for the same volume of biogas Effaa Cactus degrades 5-10 times more faster than animal manure, thus making the unit 5-10 times more productive. Moreover Effaa Cactus does not produce Hydrogen Sulphide that causes acid rain as in the case of animal manure. Our Biogas is methane produced by the process of anaerobic digestion of Effaa Cactus. It can be produced either from biodegradable waste materials or by the use of energy crops like Effaa Cactus and Effaa Grass fed into anaerobic digesters to supplement gas yields. Chemically, it is identical to natural gas which is stored deep in the ground and is also produced from dead animal and plant material. However, there are several important differences between biomethane and fossil fuel derived methane despite the fact that both are produced from organic matter. Biomethane reduces the need for fossil fuels by which it further reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases into the air. By reducing the need for firewood, helps preserve the forests which in turn helps lower concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as the trees absorb carbon dioxide while releasing pure oxygen. The use of organic matter for biomethane production also improves hygienic conditions and quality of life in the rural areas, and reduces the risk of water pollution.Since biomethane is chemically identical to natural gas, it can be used for the same applications as natural gas. It can be used for electricity generation, water heating, space heating, cooking as well as to fuel vehicles.

Environmental Benefits of our Biomethane

Biomethane is one of a few alternative sources of energy which are not only renewable but are also environmentally friendly. It is not 100% greenhouse-gas-free, however, it does not contribute to global warming.
On the contrary, it helps fight it. A few of many environment benefits of biomethane:

  • Reduced need for fossil fuels. Biomethane is identical to fossil fuel derived methane or natural gas and can be used to substitute natural gas and in large extent, oil and coal as well. Burning biomethane for electricity generation, heat production or fuel emits carbon dioxide and some other greenhouse gases as well but it does not increase carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. This is due to the fact that the same amount of carbon dioxide would be released into the atmosphere if organic matter (from which biomethane is produced) would simply be left to decompose naturally.
  • Lower water, soil and air pollution. The use of biomethane lowers water, soil and air pollution not only because it eliminates fossil fuel related pollution and the risk of potentially devastating accidents. Biomethane also reduces the risk of contamination and pollution of water, soil and air by organic matter. Theoretically, organic matter cannot harm the environment, however, release of large quantities of slurry into a river or stream for instance can cause serious damage to the environment.
  • Preservation of forests. Firewood remains the leading source of heat in most parts of the world. The use of wood for heating is not problematic as long as it comes from sustainably managed forests but unfortunately, it often does not. In addition, the population growth puts an increased pressure on natural resources which threatens ecosystems and biodiversity, while uncontrolled logging dangerously raises carbon dioxide emissions. Since the trees absorb the harmful greenhouse gas, its concentration in the atmosphere increases with each fallen tree. Purchase recycled and reclaimed wooden products which do not use freshly felled trees. As an alternative source of both heat and electricity, biomethane helps preserve forests and biodiversity.
  • Reduced emission of greenhouse gases. One of the greatest environmental benefits of biomethane is without a doubt its effect on the Earth's atmosphere. Unlike the conventional sources of energy, the use of biomethane does not increase the concentration of greenhouse gases because carbon dioxide and other gases that create the greenhouse effect are released into the atmosphere anyway during the decomposition process of organic matter. In other words, biomethane is one of the best ways to satisfy the increased need for energy without contributing to warming of the planet which threatens all living species including humans.
  • Minimal intervention into nature. Production of biomethane requires the so-called digester tanks and often also storage facilities. But other than perhaps visually affecting the landscape, production of biomethane has no harmful effects on nature and local ecosystems. Biogas plants require a minimal intervention into nature which cannot be claimed for coal mining, oil and natural gas extraction and even some renewable sources of energy.

Advantages of our Bio Methane

Rapid depletion of non-renewable energy resources and the threat of global climate change have forced companies like Ours in the the energy sector to look for alternative sources of energy in order to generate enough energy and preserve the environment at the same time. Though the technology for utilization of green energy remains very expensive or unable to satisfy the world's need for energy, or both Effaa's answer is this alternative source of energy which has great potential when it comes to efficient power generation at acceptable cost – biomethane. In contrary to fossil fuel derived methane which is available only in limited amounts, biomethane is a renewable source of energy. It is produced from organic waste (dead animal and plant material), sewage, manure, slurry apart from our primary raw materials like Effaa Cactus and Effaa Grass . In addition to providing a renewable source of energy, biomethane can be produced just about everywhere in the world. The access to natural gas and other fossil fuels, on the other hand, is available only in a few parts of the world because the deposits are distributed very unevenly. In addition, they can be located in hard to reach areas such as deep beneath the ocean floor making extraction very expensive and dangerous for both the environment and people. Biomethane, on the other hand, requires only collection of organic matter which is easily available throughout the world and Effaa encourages companies world wide to set up such units with compelete turnkey solutions for the same. Another great advantage of biomethane over fossil fuels is the fact that it does not harm the environment in any way. In contrary to fossil fuel extraction, production of biomethane does not require any dramatic interventions into nature and does not pose any significant risk of pollution or biodiversity loss. Even more, it helps preserve the environment from pollution as organic waste can be harmful to the environment as well in large enough concentrations. But the greatest advantage of biomethane over fossil fuels is the fact that it does not contribute to carbon dioxide emissions despite the fact that biomethane combustion produces this greenhouse gas as well. This is due to the fact that the utilization of biomethane is basically only utilization of energy which is released during the natural decomposition of organic matter. Carbon dioxide which is released into the atmosphere during biomethane combustion equals the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted during natural decomposition of manure for instance. Fossil fuel burning, on the other hand, increases the emissions of carbon dioxide because the gas would not be released into the atmosphere if it would not be extracted and utilized for power generation by humans. In comparison to other environmentally friendly and renewable sources of energy such as wind power, wood burning stoves, solar power, tidal power, etc., biomethane has two important advantages – availability and usability. The mentioned green sources of energy also have a limited usability and are typically utilized only for electricity generation. Biomethane, on the other hand, can be used to generate electricity and produce heat but it can also be used as fuel.
